Physical Exams: A complete physical exam performed by an experienced veterinarian is one of the most important services that we provide to ensure the health of your pet. During a physical exam the doctor will assess your pet by examining him/her head to toe.

If any abnormalities are found recommendations will be made to diagnose and treat your pet’s condition. It is extremely important for your pet to have annual physical exams to alert us to possible abnormalities so that they can be treated in a timely manner.

Vaccinations: We frequently evaluate risk factors and vaccines available to us and will choose your pet’s vaccines based on manufacturer’s and the veterinarian’s recommendations. Descriptions of the recommended vaccines can be seen on the Forms and Handout page.

Orthopedic & Soft Tissue Surgery: All of our patients are carefully examined prior to anesthesia. We encourage every surgery patient to meet with the doctor the morning of the procedure. We take pride in our attentive staff's patient care. Pre-anesthetic blood screening is always recommended prior to any surgical procedure. Surgical services and facilities include the following:

·        Fully trained veterinary and technical staff to ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet.

·        Oxygen saturation and blood pressure monitors

·        Electrocardiogram during the procedure

·        Intensive post-op care

Radiology: Our hospital has an advanced digital imaging system. It provides fast and high quality images. It minimizes time, stress on your pet which ultimately reduces radiation compared to standard film imaging. We could even send your pet’s x-ray image to your e-mail or burn it on a compact disk before you leave the hospital.

PennHIP is a multifaceted radiographic technology (x-ray) for hip evaluation. The technique assesses the quality of the canine hip and measures canine hip joint laxity. It is accurate in puppies as young as 16 weeks of age. It has great potential to lower the frequency of Canine Hip Dysplasia when used as a selection criterion.

We also perform radiographs to satisfy the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) (links page) requirements to get your pet OFA certified for breeding.

Ultrasonography: Is a great tool for the breeding cat or dog. We could identify viable puppies or kittens as early as 21 days.

Endoscopy: This offers a high-tech fiber optic scope to directly visually examination within the gastrointestinal system of your pet. Biopsies of the intestinal lumen can be taken during the procedure. Foreign objects can sometimes be removed without the need for surgery.

Dentistry: Regular professional teeth and gum cleaning is important to maintain your pet's health. An infection in your pet's mouth is just like one in his or her kidney, heart, liver or lung. The infection can easily spread from the gums throughout the entire body via the bloodstream.

We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface that is more resistant to plaque buildup.

Laboratory: Fully equipped in-house laboratory with prompt, specialized diagnostic capability.

Pharmacy: We stock a wide range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field. We are able to special order any prescriptions that your pet may need. In addition we can have most prescriptions formulate it into a liquid medication and flavored it so that your pet will more readily accept it.

Parasite control:

Flea and tick prevention is recommended monthly.  Due to the amount of ticks we have in Maine we have to recommend prevention about 10 months a year.

Heartworm Infection is transmitted by infected mosquitoes and can cause serious disease in your dog. Heartworms infest the hearts and lungs of dogs and may eventually lead to heart failure and death. If a dog does develop heartworm disease, treatment is difficult and expensive. Avoid heartworm disease in your dogs with oral monthly prevention. Simple chewable tablets are given once a month from June to November.
